A visit to Gorta in Swatragh brought our Famine topic to a thoughtful and engaging conclusion. Pupils enjoyed seeing first?hand how people in our local area lived at this time and learning about the impact the Irish Famine had on them. They were able to relate much of the information shared by the tour guide to the novel Under the Hawthorn Tree, which helped to deepen their understanding. The VR headsets really brought history to life, and pupils especially enjoyed the treat at the end of the tour.
